Summer Simplicities

Missed are the days gone by,
Now living in a land of memory –
Of childhood adventures
And adolescent curiosities.

When the biggest decision
Was to have fun this way
Or that. When anxieties
Meant the all too real

Possibility of missing
The coveted ice cream truck
On a hot and humid
Indian summer evening

Or sneaking into a quiet home
On the wrong side of curfew
After a crisp night alive
With friends and first love.

Simplicities of summer,
The warm glow of dusk,
Calling me back to the charm
Of disparate days filled by youth.
