Life Lines

A straight line is a lie.
Nothing is ever so smooth,
So focused or so steady in
A sketch of everyday life.
Each moment, each memory,
Comes from the jagged edges,
The winding, wandering spirals,
The lofty elegant loops,
We draw in the corner
When we need distraction
From whatever is haunting
The center of the page.
